With a little inspiration from Aimee at Little Brick Pastoral and a little bit of liaison (she is such a gem) we'd like to introduce you to our Calvary Farmers - Basil and Jessie. These two inspirational egg farmers who will be sharing our Archibull Journey with you this year were named by our class by voting. It seems our farmers are rather ambitious and quite keen to take on the world, despite their diminutive size. Watch this space to see their adventures and capers as our Archibull journey continues!
Tuesday the first of May saw our YFC for 2018 breeze into Calvary to share her story. Jasmine is an absolute dynamo with a passion for all things Agricultural. With her vast knowledge in the chicken industry and with our Year 9 co-hort deep in a 'Disease' unit, our teacher took the opportunity to get Jasmin about disease management in the chicken industry and how that translates to us as people. It was fascinating.
With our school birds, we came to appreciate that our yolks were 'under yellow' and wouldn't make the cut for a commercial production. Jasmine came down the farm for a walk and we introduced her to our flock. We have entered the Hyline Brown Egg laying competition at the EKKA this year and were hoping our birds for this would have arrived, but sadly they hadn't. Jasmine shared the secret to the golden yolk in their production - but if we spill that here, we'd have to kill you. Was rather cool though and not something we'd ever considered!
